One thing I've learned and the game discourages is exploration. Got tired of running back and forth to the settlements (hoarder) 4 or 5 times per mission. My mods are light in the order of 2 to 3 including removing the carry weight limit. I ignore "your settlements are being attacked" which is very annoying. Right now I'm avoiding the main quest but quickly running out of missions, so I will be done the game soon. It's home made, so some voice acting is better than others and the humor isn't always humorous, but I loved being able to get an entirely different ending where most everyone gets along. You go through the full range of events but in a new way that lets you decide how things end up, nothing has to go boom. If you don't want to do the main story line but still play the game (and you don't mind some adult themes and language) you could try adding some quest mods, my current playthrough is using this series: I am currently playing through it again and I haven't done very many main missions (none of the minute men and a few of the BOS and Railroad). I enjoyed the game, and still enjoy the game. And bug fix mods "emogene takes a lover fix" and "unofficial fallout 4 patch" are needed to avoid any game breaking bugs. There are some very good character mods like "im darlene" and "heather casadin" that adds to the story. I wouldnt use other tree/foilage mod other than the "sometrees) as they break precombines and cause CTD and large loss fps in some areas.īut without mods and playing on survival, it can get quickly boring. And game is ugly, so I use lighting mods, and "sometrees" mod and grass mod.

Otherwise you become nearly invincible in later game. But even on survival, I made my own mods to reduce XP (level up much slower), reduce stimpaks (otherwise I will have hundreds), reduce adhesive (supposed to be rare, but is everywhere), reduce ammo, gave AI more damage, etc, and forget power armor, clunky, OP, and unneeded once you meet RR.

It is more intense and requires tactics exploring knowing you have to start over and lose 50 hours if you die.

I have over 3000 hours in fo4, but I keep it interesting via playing permadeath, if I die I have to start over.

The story in FONV is better, but fallout 4 can be fun with the right mods and playing on survival mode and fo4 has much better shooting/moving mechanics.
